**MEETING AND RALLY** - Numbers needed!

The first meeting of Friends of Victoria University will be held tonight Wednesday 19th November in  room E102F (E Block) Footscray Park Campus, Ballarat Road, Footscray at 5:30pm.  

 
There is an entrance to Building E from Ballarat Road via ramps or a stairway. E102F is on the bottom level of the building. (If you have any trouble finding the room, give me a call on 0401 821 903)
 
Also a reminder of the rally tomorrow on Thursday 20 November. There will be a bus leaving from next to Footscray bowl, Hoadley Crescent, (next to Vic Uni) at 10.1.5 am , or you can meet us at  the Athenaeum Theatre, 188 Collins St, Melbourne CBD at 11 am.

Want to join other young activists in a range of activities?

We meet every month on the second Tuesday [contact us for details] to get together with other young unionists to:

  • create and work on projects and campaigns
  • design flyers
  • plan stalls and festivals on and off campuses
  • speak to other young people in schools
  • plan contingencies at demonstrations and rallies
  • seek involvement at community events
  • come up with our own ideas and strategies about how we can work to fight for our rights at work!

We are currently meeting at The John Curtin Bar opposite Trades Hall — its near the corner of Victoria and Lygon Streets in Carlton South. We meet at 5pm, have a couple of drinks and a chat. The Union movement has always stood for the needs of the community and of the individual in an endeavour to create a more just society based on principals of individual dignity and integrity attained in the workplace collective and practiced in the community and in the home. SKA TV is both ideologically and practically aligned with this stance.

Also in line with our charter, ‘The Union Show’ creates a unique opportunity for working artists to develop both their professional skills and knowledge as trainers; and it is also a training opportunity for emerging artists, where they can experience and participate in a community broadcasting environment, identify and express social issues significant to them, and create works that are widely distributed and thus act as a vehicle for social change.

Not less important is our vision of ‘The Union Show’ as a means of countering the image expounded that by commercially interested media that identifies the idea of collective bargaining with skullduggery, thuggery and sensational historical tales of murder and corruption. SKA TV is about community. Community is by nature a collective operation.

The Union Show is broadcast at 7pm on Tuesdays on Channel 31.

Start your day with some of Melbourne’s early rising activists on Solidarity Breakfast, 3CR’s Saturday breakfast radio show. Tune in to 855AM to hear a great trade union and rank and file activist show, covering industrial current afffairs, union issues and other news from the labour movement.  YUN Co-ordinator, Danielle Archer will be a regular co-host on the programme, every 4 weeks
